Gail B. Burns, Consultant
In April 1998, Gail B. Burns, CPCU, CIC joined the International Insurance Foundation as an independent consultant focusing primarily on insurance regulation and training in the African countries. She has developed and implemented training seminars for insurance regulators in emerging countries on topics such as market conduct, financial exams, and mandatory filings. She has also contributed her claims experience to the OECD Insurance Committee project on claims practices.

Prior to working as a consultant, Ms. Burns was employed in the property and casualty insurance industry for 18 years in claims. Her career started in the industry as an all-lines road adjuster and progressed to a Home Office consultant overseeing technical supervision of twelve offices throughout the USA.

Her international experience ranges from volunteering in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone, West Africa from 1977-79, participating as a delegate to Russia and Belarus in 1994 and as a delegation leader to China for 25 insurance professionals in 1995 with the People to People Program.

A graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Music Education, Ms. Burns is a past President of the Maine CPCU Chapter and a former National Committee member of the International Insurance Section of the CPCU Society. Ms. Burns received the National Standard Setter Award from the CPCU Society in 1993 for her volunteer work in insurance education in West Africa.
