Ian Webb
Ian Webb joined the IIF in August 1999 as Research Director. His work focuses on emerging insurance industries, coordination of regulatory reform,
international best practices in the supervision of insurance, and the role of insurance markets in economic development. Recently completed papers include an
assessment of the Argentinean insurance industry, a comparison of U.S and European Capital Requirements, and the determinants of life insurance market penetration.
He is currently directing a joint study with the World Bank on insurer solvency requirements worldwide. His soon to be published dissertation analyzes the role of
insurers and banks in the productivity growth of economies.
Following an MBA in Finance from the College of Insurance, Mr. Webb received his MS in Economics, and Ph.D. in Risk Management & Insurance from Georgia State University.
While working in the Financial Sector Development Department of the World Bank, Mr. Webb developed the bank's coordination on
insurance matters with various international organizations, wrote regulatory best practices, and coordinated the activities of the
Insurance Thematic Group. Mr. Webb also served a short term as a consultant on underwriting operations and capital requirements for the
Multilateral Investment Guaranty Agency.
